Market

Probably we would all be happiest living the perfectly simple life. Yet even then we'd still be buying some things. And between here and the perfectly simple life, we'll buy a lot of stuff. Why not make all those purchases as positive as possible by buying green?

We're working hard to put together a collection of extraordinary green products and services, provided by individuals and small companies committed to sustainability.

To make it convenient for you to purchase products made by these companies, we've built the GreenSense General Store, where now you can browse and purchase things like handmade, olive oil soaps and shampoo, shaker-style, handmade brooms, beautiful boxes and shelves made from ancient barnwood, exquisite jewelry made from recycled metal gathered on the backroads of Vermont, massage oil, sleepmasks, musical instruments, maple syrup, books, and many more products coming soon.

We emphasize handcrafted goods over machine-made because of their greater potential to enrich people's lives- the lives of those who make them as well as those who use them.

Of course, there are some products that can be mass-produced in a way that is earth and worker-friendly - paper products, some food products, pet products, etc. For those products, and for others not available in our General Store, have a look at our Products and Services links, below.

By the way, if you find a green product or service of extraordinarily high quality, that you think our visitors would like to know about, please use this form, or give us a call at 802-660-3174.

Drawbridge - - Greeting cards depicting the art of homeless children. Proceeds go to support the Drawbridge program, an expressive arts program for homeless children that provides weekly art groups for 1,000 children a year at sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Why art? Because,

...shelters focus on the survival needs of parents. Parents are unable to provide the extra support needed by their children because their own emotional resources are depleted in a time of crisis. The children, sensing the parents' stress, often subjugate their own needs. At school, homeless children often begin a cycle of poor performance that has severe long-term effects....

...The nonjudgmental and loving support of the Drawbridge staff enables the children to rebuild a sense of control and self-worth. Trained facilitators use art to transform self-hate into self-respect, violence into compassion, and powerlessness into active participation.
